So I did, and sure enough, he was sitting on his bike outside the fence - there was this fence that went all around the course- and he was sitting there, about a hundred and fifty yards behind me, watching me tee off. That's the kind of red hair he had."

--> 아마 주인공 Holden이 살아 있는 것 중에서 가장 아끼고 사랑하는 사람으로, 12살된 여동생 피비가 자는 동안 그 방에 몰래 들어가 책에 미들네임을 자기 마음에 드는 것으로 바꿔서 써 놓은 것을 보고 재미있어 하는 부분이다.
소설에서 죽은 동생 Allie나 여동생 Pheobe는 주인공이 동경하는 순수함, 허세와 부조리가 제거된 세상을 상징한다.
4. 기타
-소설의 제목(호밀밭의 파수꾼) 은 그가 커서 호밀밭의 파수꾼이 되겠다고 한 대사에서 온 것이다.
-예전에 번역판으로 읽었을 땐 번역이 매끄럽지 못한 탓인지는 몰라도 별로 감동을 느끼지 못 했는데 , 원문으로 다시 읽으니 감정이 직접적으로 전달 되어 훨씬 더 재미있었다. (군데군데 매복해 있는 익살스러운 묘사 때문에 지하철에서 책 읽는 내내 "흑흑흑"의 흐느낌에 가까운 웃음을 흘려야 했다. ) 재미있는 책을 묘사할 때 Page -turner라고 하는데, 이 작품은 정말로 그랬던 거 같다. 시간가는 줄도 모르고 새벽 3시까지 벌건 눈으로 하루만에 다 읽어 버리고 말았다! 얼마 동안은 아니 어쩌면 평생동안 가장 좋아하는 책으로 남아 있을 지도 모르겠다.
